With the rapid industrialization, human-caused environmental change has already increased the frequency and severity of heatwaves across the globe. The new research demonstrates that heatwaves will get even worse as the planet warms further. Scientists have found that climate change played a major role in recent heatwaves be it Europe, Australia or the Middle East. On a number of occasions, warnings have been issued in Karachi, sukkar and jacuabad with aspect to rise of temperatures beyond normal which have definitely demonstrated to be correct.

Normally, warm weather is loved by the majority of us. But, when the weather is excessively hot, it becomes unbearable. No doubt that strong heat waves have increased our resilliance, but prolonged wave can cause ton of serious conditions and health risks ranging from cramps to strokes.

Therefore in these extreme weather conditions where your body finds it hard to keep up a normal temperature, you need to educate yourself to beat the heat.

Things to do if you suffer the heat wave:

  • Stay in air-circulated room; preferably air conditioned.
  • Avoid direct sunlight.
  • Postpone outdoor games and strenuous activities.
  • Stay hydrated throughout the day e.g ORS.
  • Wear lose fit clothes, a cap and sunglasses.
  • Avoid protein and other stuff that created heat in the body.
  • Insulate your ceilings and walls so that cool air does not escape the room.

Symptoms of heat stroke:

  • Heavy sweating
  • Exhaustion
  • Dizziness and light-headedness.
  • Red, hot, and dry skin.
  • Muscle weakness or cramps.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Shallow breathing.

Damage Control:

  • Relocate the person to a cool area.
  • Call the ambulance asap
  • Remove any excess clothing and constantly wet skin with water.
  • Don’t force the person to drink any fluid.
  • Do not give aspirin to reduce body temperature.
  • If it is taking time for the ambulance to come, then call hospitals emergency staff (numbers mentioned below) and seek instructions.
